Wolves are deeply social beings who create strong bonds with their packmates. They are masters in conflict resolution, resorting to bloodless aggressive games like fake fight, growling, and slight biting to release tension. These are often followed by affectionate mutual licking. Wolves are matriarchal. The female alpha wolf chooses her mate and the site of their territory, and makes many decisions for the pack. She can demonstrate steady courage to protect her pups, even attacking a grizzly bear (five time her weight) on her own.
In North American since 1700
number of wolves killed by humans: about 2 million
number of humans killed by wolves: 2

In The Pack paintings, I explore the essence of the wolf. I render the fur and whiskers with graphite, walnut ink, and black ink. As for the “soul” of the wolf, I use sodalite, a blue stone that supports the immune system, enhances mental clarity, and encourages authentic communication.

What if wolves had guns
and birches had bullets?
What if bees
had Supreme Courts
and clouds
had parliaments?
What if Life
could impose Her Laws?
How would it be?
From the roots of ages
From the bones of the wind
From the smile of the moon,
Rules we know
run through our bowels
